Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have foiled an armed robbery in the Auchi area of the state, arresting one suspect and recovering firearms in an intelligence-led operation.
In a statement on Tuesday, signed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the police said stolen items were also recovered following a swift response to the robbery in Auchi.
The statement read, “The Edo State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of a firearm and stolen items following a swift police response in Auchi.
“On 2 May 2026, at about 02:00hrs, actionable intelligence was received at Auchi Division that a four-man armed robbery gang had invaded the residence of one Mr Okologho Prosper in the Comprehensive Secondary School area of Auchi.
“Acting promptly on the information, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a patrol team to the scene. On sighting the police, the suspects fled in different directions, abandoning a bag containing one cut-to-size locally made firearm, one live cartridge, and one mobile phone.

“A coordinated manhunt was immediately launched, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, Aliu Mustafa (male), at about 09:00hrs the same day. Further investigation led to the recovery of two additional mobile phones, one wristwatch, and one bag, all identified as items stolen from the victim.
“The suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending the remaining members of the gang.”
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, commended the swift response, professionalism, and dedication of the operatives involved in the operation.
Agbonika reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid policing efforts.
