Afrobeats superstar Davido has shared that his Grammy-nominated track ‘With You’, featuring Omah Lay, was nearly left off his 5IVE album.

The singer made the revelation during an interview with OkayAfrica, which was shared by HYPETRIBE on Monday.

According to Davido, the song failed to impress during early listening sessions and was not initially seen as a standout.

“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.

Reflecting on the song’s eventual success, Davido admitted that its near exclusion still weighs on him emotionally, especially whenever he performs it live.

“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” he added.

Davido also recounted how he received news of his latest Grammy nomination, revealing that the moment caught him by surprise while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday.

“I was in the car, actually, checking a car, and then my phone rang. They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he said.

‘With You’ has since grown into one of Davido’s most successful recent releases, topping charts and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.

Despite the achievement, Nigerian artistes did not secure a Grammy win at the ceremony, as South African singer Tyla claimed the Best African Music Performance award.

Looking ahead, Davido said his focus has shifted to touring and releasing new music.

He confirmed his appearance at Coachella 2026, where he is the only Nigerian artiste on the lineup and is scheduled to perform on both Saturdays, April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.

“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.

Davido again fell short of securing a Grammy Award after losing in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 ceremony.

The 68th Grammy Awards, held on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, saw Davido nominated for “With You” featuring Omah Lay.

However, the singer did not clinch the prize, extending his Grammy record to five nominations without a win.

The category was won by South African artiste Tyla for her track “PUSH 2 START.”

Other nominees included Burna Boy’s “Love,” Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat” featuring Wizkid, and “Hope & Love” by Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
