UNICEF reports significant decline in number of out-of-school children in N/East

The United Nations Children’s Fund has announced a significant drop in the number of out-of-school children in the North East region, from over three million to two million.

UNICEF Chief of Field Office, in Borno state, Mr. Gilmar Cruz disclosed this to journalists at a launch the Global Partnership in Education with Accelerated Funding project for children in the region.

Conflict in the north east has brought about increase in the number of out of school children.

According to the state universal basic education, a total of 500 public schools were attacked and destroyed in the last 12 years.

Efforts put in place by Government and development partners has seen the massive return of children to classes.

At a launch of Global Partnership in Education with Accelerated Funding project, the United Nations Children’s Fund is happy to announce a decline in the number of out of school children.

Together with UNICEF, education stakeholders from governments of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe have gathered to talk about the goals and strategies for carrying out the project.

In order to ensure successful implementation and enhance educational outcomes for children in the region, the workshop’s main goal is to strengthen stakeholder collaboration and coordination.
