TVC’s Ola Awakan has been given a merit award for his contribution to dance in Ajegunle, a suburb of Lagos. Mister Awakan is known for his poetry, satirical dance arrangements and reportage of news events in Lagos.
Dance is the movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music for the purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply enjoying the movement itself.
Over the years there have been different dance trends. But dance as an art form has broken barriers of distance and culture, uniting people of different backgrounds.
At this year’s commemoration of World dance day, the Ajegunle Theatre Arts hosted the guild of Nigerian Dancers to honor 19 dancers. the organisers believe Nigeria still has a lot to show the world.
With a background in Ajegunle, Lagos, TVC News’ Ola Awakan, was one of the awardees.
Mister Awakan and the other award recipients are being recognised for starting their dance careers from Ajegunle, recognised in the media as a slum.
They have been able to use different platforms to change the negative narrative associated with the community.
