The prosecuting counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, demanded that the Federal High Court place the proscribed IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in a special correctional facility instead of Kuje correctional centre after sentencing, citing past jailbreak incidents.

Awomolo expressed his concerns after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja found Kanu guilty on all seven count in his ongoing terrorism case.

Awomolo ask that Kanu be kept in the safest custodial centre anywhere in Nigeria pending his execution or sentence.

He said, “I am not too confident about the safety of Kuje Correctional Centre.”

He added, “his enemies or friends may come for him and that Kuje, which has witnessed Jailbreaks is not safe to preserve his life until he is either executed or otherwise.”

The court give Kanu’s former lawyer chance for allocutus before sentencing is handed down.

But Alloy Ejimakor ceded that role to a member House of Representatives , representing the constituency where Kanu came from.

TVC previously reported that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has found the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, guilty of all seven counts of terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Omotosho, cited prosecution evidence, including video interviews, broadcasts in which Kanu made violent threats against Nigeria and its citizens, as the basis for the conviction.
