After a four-week break, the second stanza of the Nigerian Professional Football League got underway on Saturday with 10-man Rivers United, defeating visiting Nasarawa United 1-nil in a match-day 20 game.
The only goal of the game was scored by Ayo Saka who volleyed in a left-footed strike, in the 39th minute, to give Rivers United the win.
Before the goal, Rivers United went a man down after Festus Austin was sent off in the 31st minute, for a deliberate handball.
The win takes Rivers United from 13th to 11th in the table with 27 points.
Nasarawa United remain 9th on the log, on 27 points despite the defeat.
Nine games will be played at different venues on Sunday as Remo Stars take on Enyimba.
The matchday’s signature contest is in Lagos between 2 teams in the top-5 as MFM FC entertain Akwa United at the Agege Township Stadium.
