The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved Governor Umar Namadi’s request to access an N84 billion Federal Government-backed facility to fund critical infrastructure projects across the state, a move expected to boost development, improve public services, and accelerate ongoing projects.

The approval was announced by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, during plenary on Tuesday, after lawmakers considered and adopted the Governor’s request.

According to the Speaker, the intervention package is part of a Federal Government arrangement designed to support states in financing major infrastructure projects.

He explained that under the initiative, the Federal Government plans to release about N252 billion monthly to the 36 states of the federation, with each state expected to receive N7 billion every month.

This means that each state, including Jigawa State, will receive a total allocation of N84 billion over a period of twelve months.

The House also approved the Governor’s request to begin the process of accessing the funds through commercial banks, as required under the arrangement.

Under the framework, interested states are expected to obtain the facility in bulk as loans from banks of their choice, while the Federal Government takes responsibility for repayment through monthly reimbursements.

The development is expected to strengthen ongoing investments in roads, healthcare, education, water supply, and other public infrastructure projects across Jigawa State.

For many residents, improved infrastructure is seen as key to economic growth, job creation, and better living conditions, especially in rural communities where access to basic amenities remains a challenge.
