The federal government has launched the Artificial Intelligence Collective, a groundbreaking initiative designed to bring together experts from civil society, academia, technology, and the private sector to promote the ethical and inclusive development of AI in Nigeria.

The launch event in Lagos brought together leading voices in the tech space to discuss how Nigeria can harness the power of AI responsibly and strategically.

As the world shifts rapidly into a technology-driven future, artificial intelligence is at the heart of the transformation — reshaping industries, economies, and everyday life.

And Nigeria is taking notice.

Determined not to be left behind, the federal government has unveiled the Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Industry Collective — a bold step toward embracing AI innovation and positioning the country as a leader on the continent.

This high-level gathering of stakeholders from the tech ecosystem marks the beginning of a coordinated national push toward responsible and impactful AI development.

Backed by a coalition of public and private partners, the initiative aims to build a sustainable AI ecosystem — one that supports innovation while safeguarding ethics and inclusion.

At the center of the initiative is the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, who says the AI Collective is more than just a policy tool — it’s a statement of intent.

According to Tijani, the government is committed to leveraging AI to address real-life challenges — from healthcare and education to job creation and digital inclusion — all while ensuring the technology is used ethically and safely.

With this framework in place, Nigeria is set to see a surge in AI adoption — not just as a trend, but as a transformative force across sectors.

Artificial intelligence is expected to revolutionize how we work, live, and solve some of the country’s toughest socio-economic problems.
