China’s President Xi Jinping welcomed Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Beijing on Wednesday, expressing a willingness to “pursue modernisation together.”

China and Vietnam have maintained rapid economic development and long-term social stability, demonstrating the advantages of the socialist system, Xi told Pham, who is in China for a working visit until Thursday.

The Vietnamese leader also attended the 15th annual gathering of the New Champions, often known as Summer Davos, in Dalian, Liaoning Province in northeastern China.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying, Xi expressed willingness to cooperate with Vietnam to “build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future and pursue modernization together.”

He stated that China has always prioritised Vietnam in its “neighborhood diplomacy,” encouraging it to pursue a “socialist path that suits its national conditions.”

Pham, who also visited Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday, stated that Vietnam supports Beijing’s stance on Taiwan and “firmly adheres to the one-China principle.”

Vietnam prioritises strengthening strategic mutual trust and pragmatic collaboration with China, as well as establishing a strategically significant community with a common destiny.

At the World Economic Forum meeting on Tuesday, he said China will continue to play a “crucial role” in the global economy, particularly in advancing digital, green transformations, circular economy and bolstering international economic integration and cooperation.

This year’s theme for the forum is Next Frontiers for Growth. The three-day event from June 25-27 is expected to draw some 1,600 business leaders and officials.
