Two Islamic clerics in Ondo State have been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure for allegedly inflicting severe bodily injuries on two minors under their care.
The suspects, Adebodun Muideen, 30, from Al-Balaagul-Mubeen Arabic and Islamic Centre, and Oladejo Musiliu, 35, from Abdullah Arabic and Islamic Centre in Owo, were arraigned on before the Magistrate Family Court in Akure. They face a three-count charge related to assault and child abuse.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, confirmed this development hrough its Public Relations Officer, Daniel Aidamenbor.
The clerics were arrested on January 28, 2026, following a petition from the Kids and Teen Resource Centre, a child rights advocacy organization, which reported visible multiple injuries on the minors.
The defendants are charged under Section 3(3)(a) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of 2021, along with Sections 255 and 335 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The court has ordered that the clerics remain in custody while awaiting bail as requested by their defense counsel and has adjourned the matter to April 9, 2026, for trial. Additionally, the court has directed that the victims be temporarily removed from their parents and placed in a children’s home until the parents can demonstrate the ability to adequately care for them.
