Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled an armed robbery attack along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway following a distress call received during a routine patrol on Tuesday.
In a Wednesday statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, the operation was carried out by troops attached to the Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, when troops on routine patrol received a distress call regarding an ongoing armed robbery attack at Nasarawan Doka.
The statement reads, “Upon receipt of the information, the troops immediately mobilised to the location and engaged the criminals, effectively neutralising the threat.
“During the encounter, one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Zayyanu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid. Other members of the criminal gang fled the scene.”
The statement added, “Troops conducted a hot pursuit; however, no further contact was made. Additionally, no casualty or abduction was recorded during the operation.
“The arrested suspect will be handed over to the relevant security agency upon completion of the investigation.
“The general security situation in the area remains calm, while troops continue to maintain a strong presence, dominate the area, and ensure a secure d environment.”
“The Nigerian Army reassures the general public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies,” the statement concluded.
