The new administration led by President Bola Tinubu appointed Senator John Enoh as the new Minister of Sports Development on the 21st of August this year.

It’s now 100 days after his resumption of office and the new Minister has rolled out his six-point agenda for Sports Development in the country.

Since his inauguration as the 36th Minister of Sports Development Senator John Enoh has held extensive stakeholder meeting with Sporting Federation leadership and other sectors of the Sports economy, analysing challenges and prospects in the sector.

The Minister has also inspected key government facilities starting with the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja and the National Stadium, Lagos, before visiting the Federal Zonal sports centres of the 6 geopolitical zones.

Senator Enoh Making his now unveiled a six-point agenda known as W.A.I.F.A.R to drive sports development in the nation.

W.A.I.F.A.R stands for Welfare, Re-organisation of Sports Federations, Activation of Grassroots Sports, Infrastructure, Funding for Sports Development and Reorganization of Sports Federations for Impact.

Identifying the National Youth Games as a flagship programme of the Ministry.

With over 200 athletes discovered each year from the Youth Games, the ministry is proposing programmes to continuously nurture them for the future.

As part of the plan, the minister has initiated a partnership between the National Institute of Sports and the Tertiary Education Trustfund, TETFUND for the development of coaches.

Funding remains a major challenge for the sports sector, with various federations looking up to the Ministry for financial support in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris France.

The National Sports Investment Programme, NSIP remain under-utilised and there is a need for more publicity and engagement with the corporate sector to drive more non-government investment into sports.
