A Rwandan man who lied to gain entry into the US after helping to carry out deadly attacks during his country’s 1994 genocide has been sentenced to 15-years in prison by a judge in the United States.
According to District Judge, Linda Reade, the Rwandan national, Gervais Ngombwa was an active participant, and a leader of the genocide, in which more than eight hundred thousand Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed.
Ngombwa was arrested on immigration charges in 2014 in Iowa state, where he was known as a devout Christian.
He is likely to be deported to Rwanda to face additional charges after serving his term.
