Image result for Rivers APC set to challenge report indicting AmaechiThe Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress says it is determined to challenge the report of the judicial panel which indicted former Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s administration of diverting 53 billion naira belonging to the state government.

The panel was set up in 2015 to investigate the sale of government assets and expenditure during Amaechi’s tenure.

And two years on, the report is still eliciting reactions, as TVC News correspondent Uche Okoro tells us.

Former governor Amaechi had earlier lost at the state high court where he had gone to stop the Commission of Inquiry from probing him.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, he approached the appeal court where his suit was also dismissed.

But in spite of these Judgments, insinuations are yet to be laid to rest that the panel was not only biased but also set up to allegedly witch-hunt perceived political enemies.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the APC say it is heading for the supreme court as state government prepares to act on the findings and recommendations of the Justice Omereji’s panel of inquiry.

With the absence of any legal impediment for now, the state commissioner for justice has allayed the fears of some Rivers residents that the panel’s report may just be swept under the carpet as has been the case with similar reports in the past.
