A senior police officer attached to Mopol 12, Niger State Police Command, has reportedly shot himself following an allegation of supplying arms and ammunition to bandits.
According to a Friday statement shared on X by Wale Ajetunmobi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the command discovered, during an audit, that 13 AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition were missing or unaccounted for during the audit.
The late police officer, DSP Isah Abdullahi, popularly known as Kunkuri, was the Head of Armoury at Mopol 12, located within B Division Police Command, Paikoro Road, Minna.
The statement reads, “A team of detectives from Abuja visited for a routine annual audit of arms and ammunition.
“During the audit, it was discovered that 13 AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition were missing or unaccounted for.
“The audit reportedly covered only the AK-47 section before the tragic incident occurred. Inspector John Moses, attached to the Niger State Government House, was also arrested.”
The statement added, “Moses reportedly confessed that the late DSP supplied him arms and ammunition, which were sold to bandits and hoodlums in Erena community, Shiroro LGA, through his brother.
“Operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) took suspects to Abuja for further investigation.
“The deceased DSP reportedly owned multiple houses in choice areas of Minna and several cars.”
The statement further disclosed that the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, confirmed the incident.
