The operatives from the Oyo State Police Command have intercepted a vehicle conveying firearms during a stop and search operation conducted by a team from the Federal Highway Patrol on the corridors of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Toll Gate in Ibadan, the state capital.

A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, on Friday disclosed that the operation carried out in the late hours of Thursday at approximately 9:11 pm a Toyota bus with registration number AFZ 933 XA was stopped, and upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered several illegal items, including two locally-made single barrel firearms, two brand new short stainless steel machetes, and twenty live cartridges.

The statement reads, “Oyo State Police Command enhances intelligence-led operations, achieves major successes in crime prevention with the recent arrest of a driver carrying illegal firearms.

“The Oyo State Police Command is excited to share the successful implementation of intelligence-driven stop and search operations throughout highways, primary roads, and essential intersections within the state. These efforts have yielded significant results, greatly increasing community safety and security.

“On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 9:11 PM, a team from the Federal Highway Patrol conducted a stop and search at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan. During this operation, a Toyota bus (registration number AFZ 933 XA) was stopped, and upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered several illegal items, including two locally-made single-barrel firearms, two brand new short stainless steel machetes, and twenty live cartridges.”

The statement concluded that, upon questioning, the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license or the necessary vehicle documentation at the time of the arrest and has been taken into custody along with the bus. 

TVC previously reported that the Jigawa State Police Command says it has intensified its crackdown on crime, with several arrests made for drug peddling, cattle rustling, and vandalism across the State.

Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shisu, confirmed in a statement that between the 10th and 17th of September, multiple operations across Jigawa led to the arrest of over 20 suspects and the recovery of stolen livestock, vehicles, vandalised cables, and large quantities of hard drugs.

In Gwaram Local Government, two suspects from Kano State were caught with vandalised streetlight cables.
