The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN) has opened a training camp in Lagos for para-athletes as part of preparations for a series of major international championships, with strong backing from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

President of the PCN, Sunday Odebode, disclosed that the camp will focus on preparations for events including the World Para Championships in Santiago, Chile, the Para Athletics Grand Prix in India, qualifiers for the World Para Table Tennis Championships, and qualification events for wheelchair basketball and para-swimming.

Odebode praised the NSC for its unwavering support and commended the leadership of its Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and Director-General, Bukola Olopade.

“We are very pleased that the camp has opened for our para-athletes, and this would not have been possible without the NSC’s support and the intentional leadership at the helm,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting Nigerian sports to professionals, saying, “We have not had it this good in the Para family.”

Odebode added that the early and structured preparations have greatly motivated the athletes, who are now more determined to deliver exceptional performances, particularly at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
