It’s the beginning of the seventeenth National Oil and Gas Summit in Abuja, and this boardroom is filled with top executives from the NNPC and OPEC, who are in Abuja to grace the event.
The secretary General, Mohammed Barkindo, leads an eight-man team, to pay a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.
Barkindo speaks about the challenges in the Niger Delta, Libya and the sanctions in Iran.
He says these led to the increase in the price of crude oil to a hundred dollars per barrel.
He pledges that OPEC they wil not be deterred,and is determined to restore the confidence of investors.
In his response, Kachikwu said OPEC had lost its credibility before the assumption of office by Barkindo, adding the new Secretary General had given the organisation a new outlook both before OPEC countries and globally.
The next three days of the summit, would witness a lot of brainstorming on ideas, looking at challenges and solutions on the best way to move the oil sector, Nationally and globally, forward.
