The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce and Anti-Crime Squad have arrested a suspected roadside hoodlum, also known as Omotaku, in connection with an attack on a motorist whose vehicle broke down along the Oshodi–Iyana Ipaja Road.

In a video shared on X by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, on Thursday, he said the incident happened on Wednesday at about 8:30 p.m. when the suspect, alongside other gang members, attacked an innocent citizen and forcibly demanded money after the victim’s vehicle developed a fault on the busy roadway.

Lagosians had previously lamented the rise in the activities of the hoodlums, particularly along the blackspots of major highways in the state.

Tokunbo wrote, “Yesterday, at about 2030hrs, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce/anti-crime squad arrested a suspect for attacking and forcibly demanding money from an innocent citizen whose vehicle broke down along the Oshodi-Iyana Ipaja Road, together with his gang members who are presently at large.”

He stated that the task force operatives swiftly moved in and apprehended one of the suspects at the scene, while other members of the gang escaped.

“The suspect was detained and will be arraigned as soon as possible,” Tokunbo disclosed, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplices.
