Erling Haaland continued his exceptional performance at the FIFA World Cup, scoring twice as Norway secured a place in the last 32 with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Senegal on Monday.
The Manchester City striker netted his second consecutive brace of the tournament to help Norway maintain their perfect start and advance to the knockout rounds with a game to spare.
Norway took the lead late in the first half through substitute Marcus Holmgren Pedersen, who capitalised on a costly defensive error to beat Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Haaland then doubled the advantage three minutes after the restart, finishing clinically after being released by captain Martin Odegaard on a swift counterattack.

However, the Africans were undone again by defensive lapses as Haaland struck his second of the evening, volleying home from Patrick Berg’s delivery after another failed clearance.
Sarr grabbed a late second goal to set up a nervy finish, but Norway held firm to claim all three points and join France in the knockout phase.
The result leaves Senegal facing a must-win encounter against Iraq in their final group match if they are to keep alive hopes of progressing.

Norway had threatened from the opening stages, with Kristoffer Ajer forcing Mendy into an early save, while Odegaard squandered a promising opportunity before the breakthrough arrived.
Pedersen eventually opened the scoring after Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly lost possession near his own penalty area, allowing the Norwegian defender to fire a low shot that slipped underneath Mendy.
The Senegal goalkeeper endured a difficult evening and was later forced off through injury, with Mory Diaw replacing him between the posts.
Norway could have added a fourth goal late on, but Pathe Ciss produced a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Oscar Bobb.
The victory sets up an intriguing battle for top spot in the group between Norway and France in Boston on Friday, while Senegal’s World Cup future now hangs in the balance.
