In a bid to achieve an improved and affordable transport system in Nigeria, the Federal Government has revealed its intention to convert one million vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas by 2027.

The Programme Director, Presidential CNG Initiative Michael Oluwagbemi made this known during a meeting with stakeholders in the sector in Ibadan.

The Presidential CNG Initiative is a component of the palliative intervention of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration aimed at providing succor to the masses occasioned by hardships caused by the fuel subsidy removal policy.

To achieve this objective, the Federal Government is partnering with the private sector and are here in Ibadan to assess facilities and engage stakeholders in charting the way forward.

The hike in the price of premium motor spirit over the years has led to the continuous rise in transportation fares across the country.

The initiative, according to the director, aims to address this bottleneck by significantly increasing the number of CNG-powered vehicles by 2027.

The CNG initiative, when finally effective, is expected to turn the country’s economy around by providing employment to the teeming Nigerian youths and expected to contribute about 25 billion dollars into the Nigerian economy.
