Image result for FG outlines plans for speedy trial of criminal casesThe Nigerian government has outlined its plans for the speedy prosecution of criminal cases to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.

Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, who represented Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this in Abuja at a conference to discuss how to boost criminal litigation.

TVC News Correspondent Sumner Sambo reports that law experts present at the conference looked at ways of strengthening Nigeria’s criminal litigation system due to delay in the dispensation of justice with some cases taking fifteen years before a judgment is delivered.

The legal experts said a new plea and case management hearing system is necessary for Nigeria to prevent delays in trial of criminal cases especially through the resort to preliminary injunctions, expert evidence, timetable and other disclosures by lawyers.

Speakers at the event include ace public prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs and other notable legal luminaries who dealt with issues such as bail application and conditions, jurisdiction of courts, offshore medical treatment by accused persons, manipulated evidence and other tactics used to delay criminal litigation.
