Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he stepped away from acting in 2019 after becoming dissatisfied with the profession, citing a lack of fulfilment and poor financial rewards.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the CreativiTea podcast, the Nollywood star said he reached a point where he no longer found satisfaction in the roles he was taking on.
Okanlawon explained that he had expected acting to offer a more rewarding career after leaving his corporate job, but instead found himself disappointed by the quality of projects and the earnings they generated.
According to him, the reality of the industry at the time left him feeling uninspired and questioning his career choice.
The actor said the experience ultimately prompted him to leave the movie industry and return to the corporate world before later making his way back into acting.
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay and the work were nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9 – 5 work to come and do mediocre work.

“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work”, he said.
Okanlawon has since returned to acting and is now regarded as one of Nollywood’s leading actors in film and television.
