The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five individuals, including a recently dethroned traditional ruler, for alleged possession of firearms, ammunition, and a suspected human skull.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, said the arrests followed a sting operation carried out on Saturday by operatives of the Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
Among those arrested is the former Ohen of Okhoromi, Ovbokhan Igbinovia Kelvin, 43. Others include Osarodion Omoregie, 41; Charles Otasowei, 55; Edwin Igbinovia, 45; and Osagie Igbinovia, 44.
According to the police, a search of Kelvin’s premises led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles with serial numbers TH4782 and 6683, two locally made single-barrel shotguns, three empty AK-47 magazines, one OFM magazine, 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a suspected human skull.
CSP Yamu stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend more suspects and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state and urged residents to provide timely and credible information on suspicious movements, gatherings, or individuals.
