Port Harcourt witnessed a heavy downpour last week resulting in the destruction of many electricity poles and properties in the city.

TVC News Edmond Awadje reports that areas including the Abacha road and Ikwere road axis were mostly affected with several electric poles pulled down by the heavy wind and rain.

Although the poles have been cleared by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company but residents and business owners say the power outage caused has affected their businesses.

PHEDC says it recorded huge loss as a result of the heavy downpour that ravaged many parts of Port Harcourt.

The PHEDC spokesman who debunked reports that the poles used were substandard also said its men have swung into action to ensure speedy return of power to affected areas.

With the commencement of repair work on the destroyed cables, residents of Port Harcourt are hoping that the company would speed up the process in order to return power supply to affected areas.
