Amid the failed military coup d’état in the Benin Republic, the wife of General Bertin Bada, director of President Patrice Talon’s Military Cabinet, was reportedly killed during an attack on his home.
According to a Monday publication by LSI Africa, a reputable media and news company, the attack on the General’s Cotonou home was carried out by a group of soldiers involved in the attempted coup d’état aimed at truncating the country’s democratic government.
The statement reads, “Benin: General Bertin Bada, the military cabinet director of President Patrice Talon, has lost his wife during the assault carried out against his home in Cotonou by a group of soldiers involved in the attempted coup d’état.”
A group of soldiers took over the Beninese national TV on Sunday to announce the taking over of the country’s governance, simultaneously ordering the closure of all land, air, and water borders.
The French Embassy, in a Sunday statement on X, said that “gunfire was reported at Camp Guezo” near the president’s official residence.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the actions of the “small group” of military men over their attempted takeover of the democratic government in Benin Republic, through a military coup.

In a statement released late Sunday, the ECOWAS commission, acting in accordance with the 1999 treaty on conflict prevention and resolution, announced that it has drawn up forces from member states, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana, to restore the democratic order of the Benin Republic.
