The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, in Ondo state, has called on the Nigerian army to hand over the soldiers accused of raping a three hundred level student to the police.
This comes after the state police command disclosed it has commenced investigation into the matter.
Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that the alleged rape of a 300-level student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA in Ondo State by soldiers at a military checkpoint, is still generating reactions.
Although, the identity of the girl in the eye of the storm and the randy soldiers involved, are still hidden, the management of the AAUA is calling
for justice in the matter.
The university in its preliminary report, condemned the act, as it awaits recommendations of the committee set up to look into the matter.
The management of the institution wants the soldiers involved to be handed over to the police for prosecution.
In the face of this, the police said it has begun investigation into the matter. Police spokesperson in the state, Femi Johnson said the command is carrying out the investigation in conjunction with the army.
The issue has attracted public outcry, with various groups seeking justice for the rape victim. All they want is that the case should be given accelerated trial and the culprits exposed and punished.
