Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has died of cardiac arrest at the age of 60.
Ewhrudjakpo was reported to have earlier on Thursday, December 11, collapsed in his office in Yenagoa and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

- Late Ewhrudjakpo was born on September 5, 1965, in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
- He began education at age 6 with his First School Leaving Certificate from Ebikimiye Primary School, Kpakiama, in 1976.
- He proceeded to Government College Bomadi in 1982 and later proceeded to Community Secondary School, Ofoni in 1987 where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC).
- Lawrence started his tertiary education odyssey in the prestigious Rivers State College of Health Technology, between 1989 to 1991 where he obtained a Diploma in Community Health, before advancing to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt between 1991 to 1996 where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) in Secretarial Administration. In 1998, he returned to his alma mater – the Rivers State University of Science and Technology for a Master’s studies in Business Administration and consequently obtained a MBA, Management Option in 2000.
- Late Ewhrudjakpo worked early in health administration, including as Head of Administration for Primary Health Care in Rivers State and Officer in Charge of Ambuloma Health Centre from 1991-1992.
- Lawrence later secured another admission to study law in the same citadel of learning, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, where he bagged L.L.B. Hons Law, between 2002 to 2007, and was called to Bar in 2009 after completing his Law School programme at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
- He also served as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under Governor Seriake Dickson for eight years (2012-2018).
- Late Ewhrudjakpo was later elected Senator for Bayelsa West District (2019-2020) in the 9th National Assembly.
- He was appointed Deputy Governor in 2020 under Governor Douye Diri after the 2019 election win, retained post-2023 reelection.
- He died of cardiac arrest on Thursday, December 11.
