The National Biosafety Management Agency says it remains committed to the task of ensuring the safety of all genetically modified foods imports before allowed into the country for consumption.
The Director General of the NBMA, Rufus Ebegba made this clarification at the National Biosafety Conference held in Abuja on Thursday.
The NBMA boss reiterated this at the third annual conference of the National Biosafety Management Agency. The officials of Agency and other stakeholders gathered to seek ways of strengthening and promoting the National Biosafety system
Stakeholders acknowledge that to remain a food secure nation, the country must grow and process it’s own foods and products.
They point out that this will also help in boosting the country’s confidence in the international market as well as create Job opportunities for the youths.
Stakeholders believe the NBMA’s rise as an Agency has been rapid and its efficiency has paid off, explaining the Federal government’s readiness to partner with the Agency to ensure steady growth and safety of the Nigerians.
The Agency, through steady growth and partnership, remains committed to ensuring all GMO’S are properly ascertained before being brought into the country for the safety of Nigerians .
