Nigerian Senate says its suspension for six months of Senator Ali Ndume, is to set a moral example for all senators on the need to protect the integrity and independence of the federal legislature.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the hearing of the committee report that nailed the Borno South senator says they were not being vindictive, but only trying to establish rules for proper conduct among senators.
Senator Ali Ndume was absent when the report recommending his suspension was read at plenary.
The suspension was initially set for one year before it was reduced to six months.
