The death toll in the truck accident at Iworoko Ekiti on Saturday evening has risen to 10, with four injured others hospitalised. The disaster has thrown the community into a mourning mood as some people are still looking for their loved ones believed to be victims of the accident.
TVC News Correspondent, Akin Ogunmola reports that residents around the scene of the accident believe that the driver of the ill fated vehicle is either new on that road or lost control at the sharp bend where he entered the market.
Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, who visited the scene of the accident and was at the palace of the community to commiserate with the bereaved families, agreed with some elders of the community that something should be done about the location of the market.
Egbeyemi also visited the Teaching Hospital in the state capital where those injured are receiving treatment.
The whereabouts of the driver and other occupants of the vehicle is yet unknown.
TVC News got a hint from the branding on the bags of rice loaded on the vehicle when it crashed that it was probably coming from Kebbi State and its destination is Ondo State.
With a casualty figure of 10, this is the worst road accident ever recorded in Ekiti State in the 22 years since the creation of the State.
