Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused China of supplying Russia with weapons and gunpowder.

This is the first time he has openly accused Beijing of directly supporting in the invasion.

Mr Zelenskyy also stated at a press conference that his government had intelligence indicating China was building weapons on Russian territory and that he would be able to share more information next week.

Despite growing relations with Russia, China, the world’s second-largest economy, has endeavoured to create an appearance of neutrality in the Ukraine conflict.

“We finally have information that China is supplying weapons to the Russian Federation,” said Zelenskyy, alluding to artillery.

Earlier this month, Mr Zelenskyy publicly revealed Ukraine had captured two Chinese nationals fighting for Russia, and last week said there were 155 Chinese nationals fighting for the Russian military.

He said at that time that Russia was recruiting Chinese nationals via social media and that Beijing officials were aware of that.

He added that Ukraine was trying to assess whether the recruits were receiving instructions from Beijing.

Mr Zelenskyy’s latest comments come as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Paris to discuss ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war, according to the State Department.
