Authorities in Indonesia’s West Java region have reported that two commuter trains crashed, resulting in at least three fatalities and twenty-eight injuries.
At least two more persons who were ensnared in the twisted debris of the railroad carriages were being freed by emergency personnel on Friday.
According to Adita Irawati, a spokesperson for the Transport Ministry, the accident occurred when a commuter train and a long-distance train from Surabaya, the nation’s second-largest city, collided close to Bandung, the province capital.
According to Ibrahim Tompo, a regional spokeswoman for West Java police, the three people killed were train staff – the driver and his assistant on the commuter train and a steward on the express train.
A total of 478 passengers were on board the trains when the crash occurred.
The reason of the accident was not ascertained, however train operator PT KAI and the province government have stated that they will conduct an investigation with transportation safety experts.
