Over 5 billion naira in TETFUND funds remains unassessed by tertiary institutions in Kebbi State.
The House of Representative Committee on TETFund and other services, has indicated willingness to assist the Kebbi state government-owned tertiary institutions to access the 2024 intervention fund.
The Committee disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Kebbi State Governor, revealing that funds from 2020 to 2023 are stuck in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The chairman of the committee, Mariam Odinaka explained that the delay in accessing the funds, especially for project execution, has resulted in a loss of value due to inflation in the country.
A report by the committee on TETFUND stated that Over 5 billion naira has not been accessed by tertiary institutions in Kebbi State.
The committee Chairman Mariam Odinaka Onoha, disclosed this during a courtesy call at the the Kebbi State Government House, and informed governor Nasir of the delay in accessing the funds, especially for project execution.
The Committee also appealed to state governments to support state-owned tertiary institutions with need assessments to ensure participatory planning for accessing the funds.
In his remarks, the Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris informed the committee of his administration’s commitment on education and has invested heavily in addressing structural decay in some schools, as well as covering tuition fees for Kebbi students studying in tertiary institutions across the country.
The oversight visit of the committee is to ensure that study grant and infrastructural expenditures of TETFund are beneficial to institutions and are utilized in Kebbi State.
