The Sudanese civil aviation authority has extended the closure of Sudan’s airspace until August 15, except for humanitarian aid and evacuation flights, according to a statement issued by Khartoum International Airport early Monday.
Sudanese airspace was blocked to regular travel in mid-April following a military battle between the country’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to local physicians, about 1,000 civilians have been murdered and others have been injured in the carnage.
Fighting has been concentrated in the capital Khartoum and the western region of Darfur.
Sudan’s conflict has displaced over 2.9 million people, including approximately 700,000 who have fled to neighboring nations.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the present violence in Sudan has displaced more than 2.2 million people.
Several ceasefire agreements arranged by Saudi and US mediators between the warring factions had failed to quell the country’s hostilities.
