Security agencies have launched a joint search and rescue operation after armed bandits abducted 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, when gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the school at about 4am, firing sporadically.

Police tactical units stationed at the school engaged the attackers in a gun duel but were unable to prevent the bandits from scaling the fence and taking the students away.

One resident, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead during the attack, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand.

Following the incident, additional police tactical teams, military personnel, and vigilante groups have been deployed to the area.

The combined team is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, describing the attack as “regrettable”.

He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant and continue supporting security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the area.
