Some Rivers State residents say they are worried about their inability to register in the ongoing INEC voter registration exercise.
They told TVC News Uche Okoro that except something is done there is a real problem of many people being disenfranchised.
This is the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State where the continuous voter registration exercise is ongoing.
But electoral officials at INEC office in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area say the turn up of registrants has been impressive.
The council is made up 17 wards and has the highest number of registered voters in Rivers State as at 2015.
With this population many have faulted the availability of only one registration point. They said this is grossly inadequate to cater for registrants from the area.
Meanwhile at the flag off of the continuous voter registration in Rivers State, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aniedi Ikoiwak explained that the commission’s local government offices have the capacity to handle a large population because the exercise is scheduled to continue until 2019.
It does seem for now that the commission’s position is yet to change.
