Maritime industry operators have projected a positive outlook for the sector in 2020, saying the sector is a key element in the efforts to re-stimulate the Nigerian economy.

They noted this at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency’s Merit Awards in Lagos.

TVC News Correspondent, Ifunanya Eze reports that it has been a long standing conviction that vast opportunities abound in Nigeria’s maritime domain. Yet, the potentiality offered by the sector has not been optimally explored.

Experts in Nigeria’s maritime sector at the gathering are optimistic that a change in the narrative is imminent. There are expectations that the dawn of the new decade will birth policies that will improve efficiency and productivity in the maritime industry.

For the Maritime administration and safety agency, the list of achievements in 2019, include improved ship registry, increased ship tonnage, in addition to having remitted 16 billion naira to the consolidated account, the agency is also forecasting a positive outlook in 2020.

Meanwhile, government said it is implementing a transport policy, which entails linking all seaports in the country by rail, in line with global best practices.
