French police searched the home of the suspected Champs Elysees attacker on Friday in the Paris suburb of Chelles.
One neighbour, who did want to be identified, said the suspect lived with his mother, who had recently left the country for vacation in Algeria.
He also said he was aware the neighbour had been released from prison earlier this year, but he had not seen him leave the house, where his mother said he stayed all day in front of the computer.
The neighbour said the suspect was not a practicing Muslim and was drinking alcohol.
