The Nigerian Navy has intercepted a vessel conveying more than 500 metric tonnes of illegally refined crude in Rivers State. The Navy disclosed this while handing over the vessel, its content and arrested suspects to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Correspondent Uche Okoro reports that the latest arrest is the third time in 2018 alone, and the second time the month of February that the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder is announcing an arrest of this nature at sea.
With the recovery of almost 7000 metric tonnes of suspected stolen crude, the Navy says it is winning the war against economic sabotage.
If eventually found guilty of oil theft, the arrested suspects face a prison sentence of up to 5 years or more.
