The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has strengthened regulatory oversight of the gas distribution sector following an operational visit to Central Horizon Gas Company Limited (CHGC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The visit, led by the Authority’s Chief Executive, Engr. Saidu Mohammed, was undertaken to assess critical gas infrastructure and deepen regulatory engagement with key operators in Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector.

CHGC, a subsidiary of Axxela Limited, is a major natural gas distribution company operating an extensive pipeline network that supplies industrial and commercial customers across the Greater Port Harcourt area. The company plays a strategic role in expanding access to piped natural gas, supporting industrial clusters and advancing Nigeria’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

According to NMDPRA, the visit underscores its commitment to ensuring safety, compliance and operational efficiency across the sector, while strengthening oversight and promoting sustainable growth in Nigeria’s energy landscape.

The Authority reaffirmed its resolve to continue engaging industry operators to enhance infrastructure integrity, improve service delivery and support national energy transition objectives.
