The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has renewed its ties with the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
The two agencies recently signed a Memorandum of understanding in Abuja to ensure effective response to marine oil spill incidents.
Oil Spills occur due to pipeline and tanker accidents, other causes include sabotage, oil production operations and inadequate or non-functional production equipment.
Oil spill is responsible for damages to waterways, marine life, plants and animals on the land.
To restore and preserve the environment, the maritime administration and safety agency, NIMASA recently signed a Memorandum of understanding with the National oil spill detection and response agency, NOSDRA
This is to reposition resources to deal with oil spill incidents.
With this Memorandum these agencies are expected to respond quicker and more efficiently to marine oil pollution incidents and ensure a sustainable marine environment.
