The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially commissioned the new state-of-the-art Advanced Clinical Laboratory at the Shehu Mohammed Kangiwa Medical Centre, Kaduna Polytechnic.

The project was fully funded from the institution’s prize winnings under the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M) for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 award cycles.

Kaduna Polytechnic emerged Best Polytechnic in the sectoral category in the most recent edition of the NATAP-M Awards, earning a prize of ₦50 million, which contributed significantly to the development of the new facility.

The commissioning ceremony, held on December 5, 2025, was attended by members of the Governing Council, management, staff and students of the Polytechnic.

In his remarks, the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr Suleiman Umar, stated that the institution has consistently deployed its NATAP-M award funds to meaningful infrastructural and academic development projects.

These include the provision of laptops and accessories, renovation of Blocks A and B of the Department of Applied Science, upgrade of the Polytechnic’s Spider FM Radio, and now, the construction of the advanced clinical laboratory.

He emphasised that the laboratory, considered a critical asset to the institution’s medical services, was funded entirely from the Polytechnic’s back-to-back NATAP-M winnings.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Oluwakemi Pinheiro, noted that the laboratory is designed to provide essential diagnostic services to both the Polytechnic community and neighbouring residents.

Responding, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, commended the Polytechnic for its prudent and impactful use of the NATAP-M prize funds. He expressed delight in meeting the Governing Council Chairman, describing the encounter as personally significant due to longstanding ties between their families.

Prof. Oloyede further congratulated Kaduna Polytechnic on its developmental strides and its ongoing transition toward becoming a full-fledged university.

Members of the JAMB management team were also part of the delegation on the visit.
