Governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke says his administration inherited eight outstanding loan facilities of over 331 billion naira from the past administration.

Addressing traditional rulers in Osogbo, the governor also alleged that he met the state treasury empty other than November salary funds in governments coffers.

At the monthly meeting of state council and traditional rulers, governor Adeleke briefed them of the debt profile inherited by his administration.

Adeleke said: “My administration inherited eight outstanding loan facilities, apart from salary and pension debts, from the Oyetola administration. My good people of Osun State, the total loan stock as at today is N331.32 billion.

“If the N76 billion debts on salaries and pension are added, the state is indebted to the tune of N407.32 billion. The amount owed contractors is yet to be determined. The only fund in government coffers, as at November 29, was for November 2022 salary. Otherwise, the state treasury was empty.

Some traditional rulers commended the governor for presenting the official debt profile of the state before them.

But the Oluwo of Iwo Abdulrasheed Akanbi differed in his opinion saying this calls for proper investigation.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi advised governor Ademola Adeleke not to focus on debt profile alone but the achievement of his predecessor.

In a reaction, Media Aide to former governor Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan said his principal never took any loan during his four year tenure while noting that governor Adeleke’s allegations shows the incumbent lacks understanding of how government runs.

Mr Omipidan insisted that 14 billion naira was left in the covers of Osun state.
