French train networks will return to normal Monday - Minister

The French Minister of Transport, Patrice Vergriete, stated on Saturday that traffic on France’s high-speed train system could return to normal by Monday following travel havoc on Friday, the first day of the Olympic Games, due to sabotaged signal stations and cables.

The transport arrangements for teams participating in the 2024 Olympics in Paris will be guaranteed, as stated by the French rail operator SNCF.

The high-speed train network was attacked on Friday morning, causing damage to the infrastructure along the lines that connect Paris to places like Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west, and Strasbourg in the east.

According to SNCF, a second attempt to breach the Paris-Marseille line was thwarted. No one has taken immediate credit for anything.

Israel Katz, the foreign minister, claimed on X on Friday that the fires were “planned and executed under the influence of Iran’s axis of evil,” but he did not offer any supporting proof beyond his earlier warnings about a similar scheme.

On Friday, 100,000 people could not take their trains, and another 150,000 faced delays but eventually got to their destinations, Vergriete said.

The transport minister assured that from Monday, everything will return to normal.
