The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested five notorious bandits linked to several insurgent killings and kidnappings across Nigeria’s North Central, North West, and North East regions.

After weeks of intelligence gathering, the elite Scorpion Squad successfully located and arrested the suspects in Nasarawa State. This operation was carried out between September 20 and 28, 2025.

During the operation, a large cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered during the operation.

According to the command, the five suspects have been on the wanted list of security agencies for a long time.

The suspects are identified as, were identified, Abdullahi Garuba a.k.a. Alhaji Ore, male, 40 years, Yusuf Inuwa a.k.a. Alhaji Dabunda, male, 59 years, David Kaika a.k.a. Baba, male, 29 years, Baba Imaji, female, 36 years, and Ibrahim Nasiru a.k.a. Pepper, male.

Several arms and exhibits recovered from the suspects include:

2,186 rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition,

Two AK-47 rifles with obliterated serial numbers,

One locally fabricated pistol with two live cartridges,

and five operational motorcycles used for kidnappings.

The FCT Police confirmed that all suspects have confessed to their crimes and will subsequently be charged in court after investigations are concluded. Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend other gang members currently at large.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, commended the bravery of the officers involved, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid Abuja and the surrounding areas of banditry and violent crimes.

“The safety and security of the FCT remain our top priority. This successful operation demonstrates the resolve of the Police to dismantle criminal networks threatening peace in the region,” CP Adewale said.

The individuals apprehended are linked to a string of high-profile kidnappings, having terrorised numerous communities and travellers across Nigeria’s northern corridor. This arrest is hailed as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing counter-banditry operations coordinated by the Nigeria Police Force.
