An Osun State Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced to 6 months in prison, an operator of a sachet water Factory over forgery and production of untested water.

Magistrate Modupe Awodele gave the judgement after listening to the plea and arguments of both the accused and the Defence counsel.

44 year old Shodipo Oyewumi operates a sachet water Factory at Kilometer 2 Ede road in Ile-Ife.

His factory was inspected in 2014 by officials of the standards Organization of Nigeria SON where he presented a forged laboratory test report on his product to the SON.

His company was shut, and he was asked to pay a fine of 25,000 into the Government’s account for not tendering genuine laboratory test report.

Shodipo Oyewumi also went ahead to produce and present a forged Zenith Bank deposit teller to the SON as evidence of payment.

But he pleaded not guilty to the two count charge preferred against him.

Delivering the judgement, Magistrate Modupe Awodele held that the documents were indeed forged by the convicts.

He accused Shodipo Oyewumi of being Economical with truth and sentenced him to 6 months in prison without option of fine

Efforts to get the reaction of counsel to the convict, Rufus Ngu proved abortive, though he commended the Magistrate for being lenient.

State Coordinator of the SON believes the Judgement will send a signal.
