Justice Simon Amobeda of the federal high court in Calabar has again refused to grant bail to Journalist, Agba Jalingo.
The accused’s lead counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-fusika, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria had opposed the prosecution’s application for adjournment and asked the court to grant Mr. Jalingo bail.
But, Justice Amobeda granted the request of the prosecution and dismissed the prayer for bail.
Justice Amobeda said the circumstances cited by the defence do not warrant bail. He said the defense partly contributed to the adjournment in the trial, and that the number of adjournments requested for has not been exceeded by law.
The trial now continues on November 5 and 6.
Agba Jalingo is facing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony and attempting to topple the Cross River State Government.
Rights activists have condemned his trial, accusing Governor Ben Ayade of being responsible for the journalist’s travails, an allegation he denies.
