The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed a deadly attack by armed bandits on worshippers during early morning prayers in Yan Doto, a community in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
According to police authorities, the assailants stormed a mosque around 5:30 a.m. on Friday while residents were observing their dawn (Fajr) prayers, opening fire on worshippers and abducting several others.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a telephone call with TVC News on Saturday morning.
“Five persons were killed, several others sustained gunshot wounds, and an unspecified number of worshippers were abducted by the terrorists,” DSP Abubakar said.

He added that police operatives have been deployed to the affected area, while tactical teams are currently tracking the perpetrators in a bid to rescue the kidnapped victims and restore calm in the community.
The attack marks the second time in recent weeks that bandits have targeted worshippers during morning prayers in the state, highlighting growing insecurity in rural communities across Zamfara.
Despite ongoing security operations, banditry and mass abductions remain rampant in parts of northwestern Nigeria.
The Zamfara Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
