The All Progressives Congress in Kebbi State has denied any involvement in the attack on the convoy of former Minister of Justice and leader of the African Democratic Congress Abubakar Malami , which occurred on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.
The incident, which happened along the GRA Old NITEL Road, left several vehicles vandalized and some supporters injured.
Malami, who recently defected from the APC to the ADC, alleged that thugs linked to the ruling party carried out the assault.
APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, distanced the party from the violence and condemned the attack, He insisted APC had no reason to disrupt peace, stressing that the party enjoys widespread grassroots support and remains confident ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Kebbi is a peaceful state,No government with massive support from the people would want the peace of the state disrupted, APC has no hand in the incident,” Assalafy declared.
He further accused security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy of firing shots during the confrontation, which he said worsened the situation.
Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the attack but cautioned politicians against engaging in premature campaigns and illegal use of sirens.
Commissioner of Police, Sani M. Bello, said investigations were ongoing to identify those behind the violence.
Governor Nasir Idris convened an emergency security meeting with security agencies to address rising political tensions.
The police chief assured that decisive action would be taken against anyone found guilty, regardless of political affiliation.
The APC, while disassociating itself from the incident, emphasized its commitment to peaceful politics and maintaining stability in the state. Party officials said attempts to link APC with political violence were desperate moves aimed at smearing its image ahead of the 2027 general elections
